I had the honour of being part of the refurbishment of St Paul’s Cathedral. The present cathedral, dating from the late 17th century, was designed in the English Baroque style by Sir Christopher Wren. Its construction was part of a major rebuilding programme in the city after the Great Fire of London and the dome has now dominated the skyline for over three hundred years, becoming a London icon.
LAH supplied new ironmongery for the refurbishment of the original doors and frames, ensuring that the design was still in keeping with the finish and feel of St Paul’s but was up to date with British standards, fire regulations and could withstand the large number of tourists visiting every year.

For this project we used Simonswerk for the hinges, Dorma for the door closers and Our Bespoke Range for the ironmongery and the finishing. Over the 20 years of working in the industry history, working at St Paul’s Cathedral has been a real highlight and privilege.
We had a few meetings on site to see the original ironmongery , we took images and details to allow us to re make the new handles to match the existing design.
Well on this job it was not the difference is was the same , we made sure we match the ironmongery design and finish the same as the building from the 17th Century.
